There's a part of me that wishes I had fame and fortune, but when I hear stories about affairs, extortion, even murder, I'm glad I'm a graveyard shift worker making an hourly wage while spending my days at home with my children.
Obviously, I'm talking about the most recent scandal with someone famous, David Letterman. Since he is the talk of almost every single entertainment story right now, I guess it's my duty to say something. So here it is ... David Letterman had multiple affairs: Are you really that surprised?
This is a complete guess, but I think at least twice a year, someone who we claim to be a flawless entertainer does something stupid that supposedly ruins their reputation. The funny thing is that their reputation isn't ruined at all. In fact, it's the complete opposite. People become intrigued by these stories and if it involves someone that has their own television show, their ratings skyrocket. (Side Note: I waited to post this blog until the ratings came in for his show after everything went down. As I predicted, I was right.)
In a twisted way, doing something stupid will make your career. Look at those two jabronis, Jon and Kate. Would anyone give a crap about them if they were normal? It's a very simple formula, Scandal = Fame. If you do something 'bad' you get the attention you crave. It makes you wonder, do famous people do this shit on purpose? In some circumstances, I think they do. I bet Jon and Kate are sippin a $2,000 bottle of champaign right now, laughing at everyone.
I'm going to list a few names and I bet you ANYTHING that negativity crosses your mind before the positive ... Here we go:
Britney Spears
Lindsey Lohan
Paris Hilton
Chris Brown
Amy Whinehouse
Roman Polanski
Jon and Kate Gosselin
It's too funny to me. Everyone on that list is known for doing stupid shit, yet, they are more famous now than they ever were before. They are the talks of practically every media outlet in existence. Producers are paying top dollar for their pictures and interviews, they're probably going to get E! True Hollywood Stories if they don't already, they'll probably have movies made about their stories ... I could go on forever! I bet they sit around and say, "My career is at a dead end. What can I do? I know! I can start doing mad drugs, or, I can go beat up my girlfriend, or, I can go to rehab about 6,000 times."
As much as I would love my books to enter the best sellers list with a possible movie deal, I have to say that it would be a disturbing world to enter. Why don't we ever hear about someone like Will Smith? He's very successful, he makes great movies, he's one hell of a comedian, he has a good family, a happy marriage. But wait, he hasn't done anything stupid so he's off the media radar. Am I the only one that sees something wrong here? When it comes to the entertainment world, why are 9 out of 10 stories negative? What the F is wrong with us?
Entertainment can be so freakin frustrating. I ask myself every day why I enjoy it so much. Not that I need it, but it's a wonderful reminder of how lucky I am to be ordinary. However, I can safely say that if a film producer wanted my script, I would ask, "How much?"
Random thoughts:
1) I love how the people that don't dance well on DWTS get harsh criticism. I didn't realize you had to be an expert dancer to be on the show. I don't think it's really fair to have someone with over 30 years of dancing experience on the show. It's a freaking sham!
2) I have to say that Jordin Sparks is on the top of my list right now for best voice.
3) Michael Vick gets a TV show on BET. I think everyone should read this blog again ... the defense rests.
4) Rumors that One Life to Live is being cancelled next year. Good, one less show I have to watch. I hate that I like soap operas!
5) My novel, Vision: Evan's Book is now FREE (PDF e-book version). Email me at visionchild77@yahoo.com and ask for it.

I don't think fame and fortune is all it's cracked up to be, but then, I don't hear many negatives about authors. So maybe you'll be safe from scandals.
